Richardson, who was competing for Astro JJR HIPPO Suzuki, passed away while being transported to Royal Stoke University Hospital after suffering “severe chest injuries.”
Tom Tunstall, 47, a third rider, was transported to the hospital for additional care after suffering severe injuries to his back and abdomen. Three others left unharmed, while five others received minor medical attention.
The Bennetts British Superbike Championship event was canceled for the balance of the event due to the severity of the incident and the ongoing medical intervention.
“At the beginning of this afternoon’s Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race at Oulton Park, exiting turn one,
Old Hall corner on the first lap, there was a chain reaction incident involving 11 riders falling,” the event’s organizer, MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR), confirmed in a statement, according to the Daily Mail.
“At once, the race was halted, and medical personnel were sent to the track. Tragically, two riders have been killed in this terrible tragedy, and another has suffered serious injuries,” they continued.
