After their six-month-old twins were allegedly left in their bassinet at home and gnawed on by rats, a couple from South Carolina was charged with child negligence.
After Akayla called 911 to report that one of their six-month-old twins was bleeding heavily, she and Justin Bearden, both 24 years old, were taken into custody.
The infant girl was covered in blood and had bite wounds to her arms, head, ears, face, and back when deputies from the
Anderson County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the home in Belton, South Carolina, according to Fox Carolina.
According to WSMV, officers said that a “large rat” that the couple described had assaulted her while she was resting in her cradle.
Multiple bite marks on the girl’s twin brother’s feet were also discovered. The Department of Social Services took possession of both children after they were taken from the family right away.
