A respected supermarket owner was fatally slashed in front of terrified customers, sparking an urgent manhunt.
At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, emergency personnel were dispatched to Darwin’s Nightcliff Friendly Grocer.
According to Northern Territory Police, a man was stabbed after being accosted by the 71-year-old business owner who asked him to return stolen goods.
The store owner was given CPR and first aid by customers, but he passed away right away. On Wednesday night, the accused criminal rode away from the site and continued to evade capture.
According to a police statement, “at this point, police believe they have identified the offender, and efforts are currently underway to locate him.”
“We heard the man’s voice as soon as we walked in, and he attempted to eject him while he was stealing,” a woman told NT News.
