Shortly before the guy was bitten, videos posted on social media show other beachgoers, including kids, standing in the water and marveling at the sharks as they swam around their legs.
According to the chairperson of the Israeli Shark Association, some tourists who came to the region to witness the sharks would even take them by the tails and beat them with an oar.
People deliberately approaching the predators, according to the association, was “unreasonable behavior.”
