A family reports that their father was attacked by sharks off the coast of Israel and used a GoPro stick to try to repel them.

There have only been 50 shark attacks in the Mediterranean since 1900, and only 11 of those have been fatal.

“Conducting searches by jet ski to locate the diver and will continue to update as developments occur,” was the earlier statement made by the Hadera Municipality Coastal Department.

“We strongly advise anyone visiting the area to stay out of the water and keep their distance from the sharks,” it continued.

At 3:02 p.m. on Monday, police and rescue personnel were called to the scene of an incident.
