According to the rule, athletes who have undergone a gender change are eligible to participate in USA Fencing-approved contests following a year of testosterone suppression therapy.
Before competing, those who fulfill these standards must present documentation of their adherence to hormone therapy.
In addition to being “based on the principle that everyone should have the ability to participate in sports and was based upon the research available of the day,
” USA Fencing stated that the policy was created “to expand access to the sport of fencing and create inclusive, safe spaces.”
