‘Heartbroken’: Kentucky High School Football Player Dies of Brain Injury After Being Hit During Scrimmage
In a statement, the coroner’s office said, “This is a very emotional time for [Wilkins’] family and the Emergency Responders involved,” and urged everyone to “please respect and pray for the family during this difficult time.”
Wilkins had a “medical emergency” during football practice warm-ups, according to Coffee County Coroner Arnold Woodham, who spoke with TODAY. He then passed out.
As they waited for help to come, the freshman from New Brockton High School received CPR on the field. In a matter of minutes,
they reached the site and took Wilkins to the adjacent Medical Center Enterprise, where they declared him dead.
