The judge at the time rejected pretrial release and bail. Ma pleaded guilty to two sexual acts with a minor under the age of 14 in February, two months before her trial was scheduled to begin.
Along with another count of possessing material showing a juvenile engaging in or simulating sexual activity, she also acknowledged to doing a lewd act with the second kid.
‘I can’t imagine a more qualified and dedicated educator to win this recognition,’ Lincoln Acres Elementary School Principal Kathy Melanese said in a previous blurb about her ‘Teacher of the Year’ award.
“Ms. Ma’s creativity, initiative, teamwork, and unwavering dedication to her students and the school are incalculable,” she continued.
“Students are more self-assured, involved citizens, and thoughtful teenagers who know they are loved when they leave Ms. Ma’s room.”
