After Ma was arrested in 2023, Hart said that she was ‘grooming him, giving him gifts, helping him with school, and complimenting him’.
Prosecutors also claimed that Ma had forced the boy, who was 12 at the time, to transmit recordings back to her.
“Ma’s grooming strategies were ultimately meant to maintain a relationship with the child for several months – and in one instance, for’more than a year’,” Hart said.
According to reports, the boy’s parents thought he was taking part in an after-school basketball program during the three months that the sexual assaults occurred in Ma’s classroom.
Additional accusations were made after a second victim, who was 11 years old, was found during an investigation into Ma.
