A geomagnetic storm will smash Earth. What to expect tomorrow

After the sun released plasma and high-energy particles, Earth will experience a geomagnetic storm tomorrow. The CME was released on Sunday at 5.40pm ET when a massive sunspot spontaneously erupted.

Solar plasma is traveling at almost 650,000 miles per hour and is projected to reach Earth by noon Eastern Time on Wednesday (5pm UK, 2am AEST).

Normally, this tiny strike wouldn’t cause a geomagnetic storm. NOAA forecasts a small G1 storm for tomorrow due to its proximity to the autumn equinox on Sunday.

NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center rates geomagnetic storms from G1 to G5, with G1 being’minor’ and G5 ‘intense.’ A G5 storm may wreck infrastructure, causing widespread power and communication outages.

That won’t be a problem with this G1 storm. This storm may slightly damage high-latitude infrastructure including

cellphone towers and satellites. NOAA warns that it might cause stunning auroras across northern border and upper Midwest states.
