For fatally stabbing a 6-year-old Palestinian-American boy in 2023, an Illinois man was given a 53-year prison sentence.
Wadee Alfayoumi and his mother were stabbed 26 times and over a dozen times, respectively, inside their Plainfield, Illinois, home on October 14, 2023.
In February, their landlord, 73-year-old Joseph Czuba, was found guilty of many murder charges in addition to counts of hate crimes, aggravated violence, and attempted murder.
After less than two hours of deliberation, a Will County jury found Czuba guilty on all counts.
Before Friday’s sentencing in Joliet, the court rejected a defense team move to reverse the jury’s decision that he was not given a fair trial, according to Chicago ABC affiliate WLS.
