Jurors also heard the mother say to the operator, “He’s killing my baby,” during her 911 call from the restroom, according to WLS.
Jurors also listened to comments Czuba made in a police car after the assault. Czuba made the statement, “I thought they were going to do jihad on me,” according to WLS.
He reportedly said that he and his wife were “afraid for my life” and that they were “just like infested rats,” according to WLS.
For two years, Czuba and his spouse let the mother and son stay in a portion of their Plainfield house.
According to The Associated Press, his now-ex-wife told authorities that Czuba had been reclusive in the days following the battle and wanted the family to leave right away, but she wanted to give them 30 days’ notice.
Czuba waived his right to testify by refusing to take the stand.
