I felt as if the weight of this new chapter had finally sunk in. For us, this was the beginning of eternity. I knew something wasn’t right as soon as I entered the home.
The whole house seemed to be holding its breath, and the air was thick and strangely motionless. Sophie wrapped her little arms around my legs as firmly as she could and slammed into me.
When she spoke, her little voice trembled. She said, “I don’t want to leave, Daddy,” her voice uncertain and unsteady.
In an attempt to interpret her expression, I leaned down until we were looking at each other. “Leave where, sweetheart?” With worry, I questioned her softly.
Her large brown eyes began to well up with tears that threatened to spill over, and her lip quivered. “I don’t want to leave once again. I would want to remain with you and Mommy.
