After being released, he will be registered at the Douglas County Correctional Facility, according to the police.
The police agency also stated that “a number of officers sustained minor injuries during the altercation, including one who was hospitalized for a puncturing bite wound from the suspect.”
The suspect’s companion dog was taken to the Lawrence Humane Society for assessment and treatment after suffering minor wounds.
The suspect’s mental health condition and whether he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident have not been made public.
The department has said it will provide more information after formal charges are filed, but the inquiry is still underway.
