“Multiple trauma alerts have been called with helicopters transporting two of the more seriously injured,” according to the police.
“Over 40 persons were on board the Clearwater Ferry when it crashed. The ferry is to blame for all of the injuries. The boat that hit the ferry ran away.
“Just south of the Memorial Causeway bridge, the boat landed on a sandbar. Every patient and traveler has been taken off the boat.
The investigation into the deadly collision will now be handled by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Following the incident, a search was conducted for the private boat, which subsequently left the site. The boat has since been identified.
