At around 7 p.m., Castellanos’ fiancé—whose identity has not been made public—arrived home to discover police encircling their upstairs apartment, first oblivious to the atrocities that had just taken place inside.
He claimed that Castellanos suffered from emotional and mental problems, which occasionally caused her to lash out and withdraw.
The fiancé, who had intended to adopt Rebecca after marrying Castellanos in two months, stressed that she was able to control her temper and was never aggressive during her episodes, according to ABC 7.
He told the publication in Spanish, “I want to start by saying that my wife was an almost perfect mother.”
She didn’t slap the girl, yelled at her, or use foul language. She was the world’s sweetest mother.
He also told NBC4 that the mother, 37, allegedly tried to commit herself the night her daughter was killed.
