A Mexican mayoral candidate was cruelly shot and killed during a live broadcast of her campaign event, along with three of her followers, including her daughter.
As she welcomed citizens on the streets of Texistepec on Sunday night, Yesenia Lara Gutierrez, a representative of Mexico’s governing Morena party, was shot and killed in the eastern Mexican state of Veracruz.
A Facebook feed of the horrific event showed people screaming and fleeing while bullets echoed off the camera. ‘Women with children in their arms’ were being greeted by the candidate.
When the gunshots started, according to the Mexican daily Reforma. Online footage showed the commotion, with at least 20 rounds fired in the tape that remained accessible.
The next day on Gutierrez’s Facebook page. Other pictures circulated online seemed to depict people dead on the street.
