Pulmonary and Critical Care Associates, Albany Vascular Specialist Center, and physicians Joe Morgan, James Palazzolo, and Thomas Ungarino. They all denied any misconduct.
The jury, however, divided blame 50/50 between Morgan and Albany Vascular and the remaining half between
Palazzolo, Ungarino, and Albany Pulmonary after considering testimony and evidence for two and a half weeks.
Powell’s claims had already been resolved before the trial, and Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where the treatment took place, was no longer included as a defendant.
“The physicians acted appropriately under extraordinarily difficult circumstances, and we respectfully disagree with the jury’s verdict and any notion that these respected physicians failed to meet the
Standard of care,” said a statement released by the doctors’ and medical organizations’ attorneys in response to the verdict.
