The news of the musician’s death from heart failure was broken by his loved ones. He co-founded the Motown group in 1953.
In a statement released on Monday (July 22), his family confirmed his passing and expressed their grief over the loss of a pioneer, icon, and music legend.
The statement went on to say that throughout his seventy-year music career, he had an impact on countless lives, performing live until 2023 before officially retiring this year.
“As the sole surviving original member of the legendary The Four Tops band, we take comfort in the fact that Duke’s music will continue to be enjoyed for years to come,” they said.
