According to McNeal, sexism was the main cause of the jeers directed toward Swift and applause for Trump.
McNeal said, “I was there at the game,” “When Swift’s face appeared on the Jumbotron, an almost instant—and distinctly male—dissent erupted from around me.”
She did, however, note that other well-known women, including Lady Gaga and Anne Hathaway, were also included and were not treated with disdain.
