According to flight data, American Airlines 5342 pilots made a last-ditch attempt to rescue every passenger.

The question of whether American Airlines Flight 5342’s pilots realized there was danger soon before the deadly midair crash that claimed 67 lives is being investigated by federal authorities.

A Sikorsky H-60 Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines regional plane traveling from Wichita, Kansas, were involved in the January 29 accident, which occurred at around 9:00 PM ET.

The crash was the worst aviation accident to strike the United States in almost 20 years, killing all 64 passengers and crew members on board the aircraft as well as three crew members on the helicopter.
