After saying they’re still “working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” detectives have opened a murder inquiry into his death.
They’ve also asked anybody who was in the park on Sunday night between 6 and 6:45 pm to come forward.
“Unfortunately, after the victim passed away last night, this has now turned into a murder investigation,” Detective Inspector Emma Matts said in a statement.
“Officers are continuing to work at speed to establish the details of the attack and we have made a number of arrests as we continue to understand what has happened.”
In an interview with Leicestershire Live before to his passing, the man’s daughter said that dad was “about 30 seconds from getting home when he was attacked.”
She said that he was “lying under the tree and at first he was complaining about his neck and now he’s not able to move his legs.”
