After being suspended for failing to use pronouns, a Christian teacher wins a $95K lawsuit.

After being punished for refusing to use a biologically female student’s chosen pronouns, a Christian teacher at a middle school in Kansas was able to get a $95,000 settlement, citing her strong religious beliefs.

The instructor claimed that her adherence to her belief that gender is determined by God at birth constituted a violation of her right to religious freedom.

Pamela Ricard, a math teacher at Fort Riley Middle School in Kansas since 2005, became the center of a nationwide discussion in 2021 about school regulations, gender identification, and religious freedom.

Despite being told by a school counselor that a kid with a biological female requested a different first name, Ricard chose to use the student’s legal last name, which led to her suspension.

Citing her religious convictions, the Christian instructor turned down the request and instead called the student by their last name with the title “Miss.”
