The jury was informed that the officer did not mention the “stupid and white” remark influencing him in his first statement to the CPS.
The court heard that when police asked CPS to reconsider its decision to drop charges, the agency said that the only possible conclusion would be an apology.
Later, prosecutors asked for further proof, and in December 2023, PC Lovell gave a second statement addressing the purported effect.
He told the court that the remarks “shocked, pset, and (left) me feeling humiliated” after reading a portion of the statement.
Almost a year after the occurrence, the charge was approved later in December 2023. During cross-examination, Ms. Forbes asked PC Lovell,
“You were determined to pursue this person, weren’t you?” “Yes” said PC Lovell, and “through the criminal courts?” inquired Ms. Forbes. The cop said “yes” once again.
