Just over two minutes after the sequence of events started, at 12:58 a.m., Flight 593 crashed into the Kuznetsk Alatau Mountain range in the Kemerovo Oblast of southern Russia.
The aircraft was totally destroyed in the hit, which happened at a high vertical speed of around 160 mph. The crew and all 75 passengers on board perished instantaneously.
At first, Aeroflot claimed that the crew was at fault, but further investigations—backed by the cockpit recordings—showed that human error was the main culprit.
