A poignant statement was shared by boxer Imane Khelif following her victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On Friday, August 10, the 25-year-old Algerian boxer, who has been the subject of a gender-based controversy at the Olympics, was awarded the title of Olympic champion.
Khelif advanced to the women’s welterweight (66kg) final by defeating Hungary’s Anna Luca Hamori in the quarterfinals and
Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng in the semi-finals. She will now face off against China’s Yang Liu. She has now become the first Algerian lady to claim the boxing gold.
The juvenile athlete was the focal point of a significant media frenzy during the sporting event after defeating Italy’s Angela Carini after the latter withdrew from the bout after only 46 seconds on August 1.
