The divers tragically died and suffered severe injuries as a result of the drastic pressure shift.
Since then, a diver who manages the Waterline Stories YouTube channel has issued a warning to anybody looking into the incident.
“Accidents happen when systems break down and there are few systems as complex and dangerous as saturation diving on a deep sea gas drilling rig,” he said.
“Now, you’re going to see some horrifying pictures when you go online to hunt up information on the Byford Dolphin catastrophe.
Therefore, when you begin looking for this accident, please exercise caution. And know that you will be shocked by what you encounter.”
