According to reports, Martinez also wanted to think about whether Mrs. Cano might be regarded as Ortega-Lopez’s third-party caretaker.
Ortega-Lopez is now being held at the Doña Ana County Detention Center without bail for “violation [of] federal immigration laws,” according to prison documents.
Joel and Nancy Cano said they didn’t want to endanger any of Ortega-Lopez’s ongoing legal proceedings.
When the Journal asked them for comment. It’s uncertain whether any of the Canos will be charged because of their connection to Ortega-Lopez.
