A former educator has been permanently barred from teaching after it was discovered that he had over 120,000 pictures of child abuse on his gadgets.
After being discovered using encrypted messaging systems to commit child sex abuse in India, Matthew Smith, the
Former deputy headteacher at Thomas’s Battersea Primary School in London, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2023.
Smith should also be permanently barred from teaching, according to a ruling made by the Teaching Regulation Authority (TRA) on Thursday.
The 36-year-old entered a guilty plea to 17 charges of sexual abuse of children. This included inciting a
Kid to be raped, inducing a child to participate in sexual conduct, and causing a child to be sexually exploited and abused.
Smith committed his crimes while residing and working as a teacher in Nepal between June 2016 and November 2022, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
