Dr. Seth was able to salvage the majority of Marie’s arms, but both of her legs had to be amputated above the knee. Marie wouldn’t have lived much longer if he hadn’t.
After six years, Marie’s life has changed significantly, but in the best way imaginable. She is stronger than ever following a difficult recuperation process that was further slowed down by the pandemic.
“It’s been challenging,” she said. “Learning how to walk was the hardest thing, but I’m good, I’m doing good.”
Marie can now do almost anything she used to be able to do, including riding her bike, gardening, and sketching, thanks to her advanced prosthetic hands and legs.
Her prosthetics are so sophisticated that they perform nearly identical functions to those of human limbs, including touch sensitivity.
“It’s like, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing,’ when I see her walk,” said Matt, who has accompanied her the entire time.
