After reporting a traumatic incident and being denied a hospital bed, a 13-year-old schoolgirl who was “crying out for help” took her own life, according to the inquest.

In school, Ella was said to be ‘struggling’ and expressed that she wanted to move schools, the coroner noted.

In September, a referral was again made to social services, and Ella shared the identity of the individual involved in the earlier incident she had described.

The school then involved the police, which caused conflict between the school and her home regarding the best way to handle the situation, as well as Ella’s behavior at school, including skipping lessons.

On a weekend in November, the teenager returned from a sleepover with friends and her parents found messages they felt were ‘inappropriate’.

She then told school staff the following Monday that she wanted to take her own life.
