After participating in a 5K race in high school, a teenager tragically passed away. According to reports, 14-year-old Knox MacEwen was taken to the hospital after the athletic event.
Following the tragic news, people took to social media to pay their respects. One person wrote: “That is devastating.” His family is in our prayers.
Someone else remarks: “Heartbreaking.” I’m really sad for your loss. “So terrible. “The life of another young person was cut short,” a third writes.
MacEwen attended Western High School in Davie, Florida, where he participated in the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC).
The program, which is sponsored by the U.S. Armed Forces, teaches teenagers “leadership skills, self-discipline, and self-confidence.”
Jimmy Arrojo, the principal of the school, broke the heartbreaking news of the teen’s death. One of our JROTC classmates died this morning after being taken to the hospital, according to Arrojo’s statement.
