After the group’s victory, a 6-year-old Black competition dancer questions why her coach didn’t give her a hug.

“Mommy, I did all my moves, I smiled the whole time … and I didn’t get a hug, but they did,” Shaniah said to her mother, according to Breglia.

In the now-viral video that Breglia posted to TikTok, her daughter’s dance team won a competition, and the coach was invited to join the girls on stage to celebrate.

With the exception of Shaniah, the coach leaned in and put her arms around each girl. She gave those girls hugs.

Then, as Shaniah leaned in to give her a hug, she retreated. Shaniah does not, however, receive an embrace at the end. Her mother claims that she became aware of her exclusion at that very moment.

On social media, Breglia provided updates, mentioning that it took two weeks for Dance Xpressions to release a statement regarding the incident.

The studio said that Shaniah’s coach instantly apologized to Shaniah for forgetting to include her in the team’s group hug in screenshots that Breglia shared on TikTok.
