All around the country — Two devastating and related tragedies have left Cincinnati in shock, each highlighting a deeper suffering that has long existed in Black neighborhoods.
First, police shot and murdered 18-year-old Ryan Hinton, a young Black guy just starting adulthood, as he was running away.
His distraught father, 38-year-old Rodney Hinton Jr., is accused of killing longtime sheriff’s deputy Larry Henderson the next day when he crashed his vehicle into him.
The damage that police violence continues to inflict on families and neighborhoods across America is reflected in the fact that many Black people find both incidents frustrating and tiresome, despite the police calling them tragic.
Police claim that when they arrived, they feared Ryan was in a stolen vehicle, according to CNN.
They claim that after reportedly pointing what looked to be a gun at authorities, he fled with it and was shot. However, the footage from the body camera is not conclusive.
