At the gala, Bindi’s younger brother, 21-year-old Robert Irwin, spoke in her place and confirmed that Bindi had suffered an appendix rupture.
He informed PEOPLE, “She will be fine, but surgery was not one of the things we were prepared for.”
Robert also disclosed that their 60-year-old mother, Terri Irwin, had chosen to stay at the hospital with
Bindi instead of attending the dinner. He remarked, “She just recovered from endometriosis, and now the appendix goes.” “Health is really very important.”
