A routine pre-boarding request turned violent at Detroit Metro Airport when three Spirit Airlines passengers physically attacked two gate agents during a dispute over carry-on baggage size.
The chaotic altercation, which took place on a Sunday, was captured on video and quickly went viral, drawing sharp criticism and renewed concerns over increasing violence in air travel settings.
According to The Blaze, the confrontation began when Spirit employees asked the passengers to verify that their carry-on bags met the airline’s size requirements before boarding a flight bound for Atlanta.
What followed was a shocking outbreak of violence in the terminal, where the passengers launched a physical attack on the airline staff.
One of the employees sustained injuries serious enough to require hospitalization. Law enforcement responded swiftly, arresting two of the passengers and citing the third, who was later released.
In an official statement, Spirit Airlines condemned the assault:
“This violent behavior is completely unacceptable and has absolutely no place in airports or any other place of business.
