“Kia” Arkia Berry was shot and murdered in a car with her son and lover, but not before the mother texted a friend the single word, “Jaco.”
Investigators now think she did it to let them know who killed her.
In the July 2024 triple killing of Berry, her 5-year-old son Landyn Brooks, and her lover, 28-year-old Eric Ashley Jr., Jacorian Deshawn McGregor, 25, is now charged with capital murder.
Berry’s text helped police track down her alleged killer, and McGregor is said to go by the nickname “Jaco.”
At approximately 5 p.m. on July 13, 2024, in Birmingham, Alabama, McGregor allegedly opened fire, murdering the family.
Berry, Brooks, and Ashley were found dead inside a blue Nissan Maxima that was covered in gunfire when police arrived at the scene of a claimed vehicle wreck, according to AL.com.
