Over 200 people were displaced and seven people, including five firefighters, were injured in a large fire that broke out in the Bronx early Friday morning. Around two in the morning, the five-alarm fire.
Started at the Wallace Avenue apartment complex in the Bronx’s Allerton neighborhood. Wind gusts of up to 45 mph fueled the fire, which started on the top floor of the 200-foot-wide structure.
It demolished every unit on the top story and seriously damaged the roof. Wind conditions made it difficult for emergency personnel to contain the fire, and it rekindled around midday.
One civilian was treated on the spot but refused additional transportation, while five others, including firefighters, were admitted to the hospital with injuries.
A local primary school is providing refuge to the evacuated inhabitants. At least 66 families were impacted by the fire, according to NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Zachary Iscol.
