“He was expressing a want,” Carney said to Sky News a few weeks back. “He had moved from the anticipation to a want. He was also coming from a position where he understood that wasn’t going to happen.
“Does he still find inspiration in it?” Most likely. Is it ever going to happen? Not a number. never.”
The Liberal leader also mentioned that, “given the circumstances,” Canadians “weren’t impressed” by Sir Keir Starmer inviting Trump to the UK for a second state visit.
“It was at a time when we were being rather clear about the issues around sovereignty,” the PM remarked.
Carney then said that he inviting King Charles III to Canada was “not coincidental,” characterizing the head-of-state’s visit as a “reaffirming moment” following issues with the country’s sovereignty being “accentuated by the president.”
In a speech opening the country’s parliament, the British king mentioned this since he observed Canada was in a “critical moment” in its history.
