Gavin had experienced “severe and chronic physical abuse and severe and chronic physical neglect,” according to the records.
Gavin’s stepmother sobbed as she entered a guilty plea in April for her part in killing her 12-year-old stepson by starvation.
After her actions caused Gavin to die malnourished, Nichole Lea Scott, 51, of West Haven, Utah, confessed to a heartbreaking list of misdeeds.
Scott is accused of starving the boy to death and abusing him for years, including shutting him in a room and giving him just scraps of food and drink, together with the boy’s father and his 22-year-old older brother, Tyler Peterson.
