However, the specialist did divulge a peculiar fact that makes no one feel comfortable. According to him, Apophis has been
left mostly unmonitored by telescopes since May 2021 and will continue to do so until 2027. This means that the asteroid has essentially been allowed to fend for itself in space.
“This arises simply because of the relative geometry of Apophis, Earth, and the Sun, which puts the asteroid in the daytime sky for the time span in question.”
