At least five people are killed and over 700 injured after a massive explosion of ballistic missile fuel at an Iranian port, prompting Tehran to place its security agencies on “high alert.”

The person discussed the behind-closed-door discussions while speaking on condition of anonymity. Their conclusion was also shown on Iranian state television.

Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi did not, however, provide any immediate facts or specifics of the negotiations they would be leading.

At the conclusion of Saturday’s meetings, however, Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, who has mediated the two previous rounds of talks in Muscat and Rome, sent a hopeful message.

Al-Busaidi wrote on X that Iran and the United States “identified a shared aspiration to reach agreement based on mutual respect and enduring commitments.”

Technical issues, goals, and fundamental ideas were all covered. Next week, there will be further high-level discussions, with a tentative date of May 3.
