When the guy was eventually found, he told rescuers that he had spent the night attempting to retrace his steps after inadvertently straying off the main trail.
Unaware that a search and rescue team had been searching for him, he arrived at his vehicle in the morning, around twenty-four hours after beginning his journey.
“One noteworthy takeaway is that the subject ignored repeated phone calls from us because they didn’t recognize the number,” according to an LCSR statement.
“Please answer the phone if you are past due based on your itinerary and you begin receiving repeated calls from an unknown number; it might be a SAR team attempting to verify your safety!”
“Please keep in mind that what appears to be common sense in retrospect is not obvious to a subject at the moment when they are lost and panicking,” the team continues.
