According to Meyer’s testimony, “the threat of serious bodily injury against him was over when the complainant dropped the pickaxe and ran off.”
Meyer was taken into custody and charged with murder. Meyer’s wife contacted a lawyer prior to her husband calling the police to report the incident, according to the affidavit.
Meyer refused to respond to the dispatcher’s questions, claiming he needed medical assistance and had been the victim of a crime, according to the affidavit.
Meyer claimed to have tossed the expended shot casings in the trash when investigators failed to discover any.
Additionally, Meyer’s claim of firing a certain number of rounds was refuted by the neighbors’ testimonies to investigators that they heard three gunshots at approximately 5:15 am.
