According to a Reuters story, China on Tuesday eliminated a 125 percent tax on U.S. ethane imports in a major step towards easing current trade tensions.
Originally enacted in response to trade practices of President Donald Trump, the tax has greatly limited U.S. ethane exports to China.
The Trump government has interpreted the elimination of the ethane tariff as a possible indication that the Chinese Communist Party might be getting ready for trade talks.
While giving other trading partners lowered tariffs in exchange for negotiations, the government has maintained a strict posture with Beijing.
