Brian Matusz, a cherished part of the Baltimore Orioles organisation and a former first-round draft selection, died on Tuesday at the age of 37.
In a touching remembrance posted on social media, the Orioles honoured the left-handed pitcher, who made 279 of his 280 Major League Baseball appearances.
The Orioles posted on X (previously Twitter) that they were grieving the loss of former Oriole Brian Matusz. From 2009 to 2016, Brian was a mainstay in our clubhouse.
He was adored by everyone in Birdland and had an unrivalled enthusiasm for baseball and our neighbourhood.
He was a beloved teammate, usually smiling, and devoted his time to interacting with every fan he could. “During this trying time, our thoughts and prayers are with Brian’s family and loved ones.”
