PHUKET, THAILAND — The mother of a British man arrested at a Thai airport after a packet of cocaine fell from his passport has spoken out.
Claiming her son was the victim of a setup and warning other holidaymakers that such incidents “can happen to anyone.”
Michelle Swain, 57, says her family’s ordeal began last May when her son, Jamie Louis Swain, then 29, landed in Phuket for a long-anticipated holiday with his brother.
What should have been a routine immigration check quickly escalated into a nightmare when a small plastic bag containing 0.42 grams of white powder fell out of his passport.
Thai authorities confirmed the substance was cocaine. Swain was arrested on the spot and initially faced up to 20 years in prison under Thailand’s strict drug laws.
