In May of 2010, she shared the good news that she was expecting triplets after five more rounds of in vitro fertilization.

She became a mother in October of that year to twins Nelson and Eddy after suffering a miscarriage in the previous month. She was 42 years old.

Dion has been very public about the struggles she had with infertility and loss in an effort to normalize the discussion of these taboo topics.

“It’s life, you know,” she said with Oprah Winfrey in 2010, just before her last healthy pregnancy. “Many people are suffering through this, and nobody is talking about it.”
