Celine Dion’s daily battles to be physically strong enough to open the Olympics: The debilitating and incurable Stiff Person Syndrome, which Star described as “feeling like someone is strangling you,” required Star to undergo excruciating treatment.

Their joy, however, did not last. The love of Dion’s life, her husband of 73 years, passed away from throat cancer only six years after they were married. His passing was followed by that of one of her brothers two days later.

Even though Dion was trying to soothe her children and cope with her loss, she was beginning to show signs of Stiff Person Syndrome.

In 2008, while on her “Taking Chances World Tour,” she had problems with vocal control and observed that her muscles were growing tight. These were the first symptoms.

It feels as if someone is squeezing you. She used her hands to show how her larynx and pharynx were being pushed in a certain direction.

Her illness is incurable, but she told French Vogue earlier this year that she was doing all she could to fight it.
