Working together, we conquered a pandemic like no other and the worst economic catastrophe that the world has seen since the Great Depression.
We have safeguarded and maintained our democratic system. We have also reinvigorated and fortified our global partnerships.
Serving as president of the United States has been an incredible privilege. I had always planned to run for reelection,
but I have come to the conclusion that my party and the nation would be better served if I step aside and devote my whole attention to finishing my time as president.
I will provide a more in-depth explanation of my choice in my speech to the Nation later this week. At this point, I just want to thank everyone who has worked so hard to get me reelected.
Vice President Kamala Harris has been an outstanding collaborator on this project, and I am grateful to her. And I want the American people to know how much I appreciate their confidence and faith in me.
